Daily repairs and maintenance

Previously, we discussed the role of hearing aids in assisting individuals with hearing impairment to improve their hearing. However, what happens if proper care for your hearing aids is neglected?

…We will talk about the consequences.

If your hearing aid has earwax buildup, various dirt and bacteria, this will make your ear canal more prone to infection.

Not only this, but if the vents of the hearing aid are clogged with dirt, it will result in the hearing aid being silent, which will have a huge impact on the hearing aid’s performance.

So, if you want your hearing aids to work efficiently and last a long time, You need to know how to repair and maintain your hearing aids regularly.

What actions should you avoid when using your hearing aids?

Kindly take note of the following tips we’ll provide for the care and maintenance of your hearing aids.

Regular maintenance of hearing aids
  • Ensure your hearing aids are cleaned daily by gently wiping them with a cotton ball or soft cloth. Use a soft brush to remove earwax or debris obstructing the sound hole or earwax filter. If excessive earwax buildup or oily residue is present, seek assistance from the center for thorough cleaning. Additionally, disinfect hearing aid housings using a cotton swab dipped in 75% alcohol.
  • Avoid wearing your hearing aid if your middle ear is inflamed and filled with pus to prevent exacerbating inflammation, as moisture can corrode the device and negatively impact its function.
  • Prior to showering or washing your hair, remember to remove your hearing aid to prevent water from entering it. After showering, ensure the ear canal is fully dry before reinserting your hearing aid.
  • You should change the battery when the time comes, and it must be a quality hearing aid battery.
  • When the hearing aid is not in use, remove the battery from the hearing aid. Place in a sealed box to prevent battery leakage and corrosion of the hearing aid.
  • Do not wear your hearing aids when applying makeup or styling your hair to avoid clogging the air vents of the hearing aids from makeup or styling products. Prevent sweat from entering the hearing aids.
  • Hearing aids should not be exposed to sunlight or electric hair dryers or microwave ovens, as excessive heat can damage the hearing aid.
  • Be careful when taking off your hearing aids to prevent any moisture from seeping into the device and causing damage. If you notice any looseness or damage to the assembly, contact a service center for repairs.
  • When transporting your hearing aid, grip the housing firmly and refrain from pressing the volume control to prevent any potential damage.
  • Keep hearing aid accessories out of the reach of children.
  • During the high humidity season, place the hearing aid in a sealed box and use a moisture absorbent or  UV-C humidifier + sterilizer.
